Might as well talk about how I write and design my Fallout canon, huh. It's sort of like how I do it for Final Fantasy, or my DnD game - while I take canon facts as lore, I also bend it and decide how real it is. But if it's a massive change from canon, I do try and justify it, and also make it clear it's not the true canon.

I'll be honest I don't really care one way or the other about TB/FF, I am totally neutral on the matter. but I cannot believe hoyoverse set up the spiciest chemistry with Kafka ever and are not coming thru with it..... HELLO??

Lord knows I've been making my displeasure about Palworld known on Twitter, but I honestly wouldn't even care that much if not for the narratives people create around it. First off is the "Game Freak needs competition, they haven't been challenged since the early 2000's" which is already untrue (What is Yo-Kai Watch? Chopped liver?), but an especially bizarre argument with all the other indie games out there. I'd rather any of those games become Pokemon's main rival over Palworld because there's good things Game Freak could take from that competition to better themselves and the monster-collecting ecosystem as a whole
The second argument is that "This is the Pokemon game Pokemon fans have been waiting for" which makes me want to scream. Pokemon Legend Arceus and Pokemon SV are far from perfect games, but I like the direction the franchise is heading in (If they're ever given enough staff and development time that is). Personally the Pokemon game I've been waiting for would be to take the best parts of those games and combine them into something greater than the sum of its parts... Not ARK: Breath of the Wild starring AK-47 Pikachu, I can't even imagine the cynical ass mind that thinks that's a step in the right direction. If Game Freak drops whatever their working on to make Palworld: No Guns Edition that would be the thing that finally makes me ashamed to call myself a Pokemon fan

this season felt exactly like when i finished arcane s1 and began looking into lol lore, whiplash-wise. like it's a bit more cohesive i guess and it retains characterisation from the show (which lol lore didn't) but we literally go from interesting political conflict between two cities and siblings with background magical elements to like. magical elements plot that's meant to introduce us to lol stuff, with background family and s1 arc conclusion. and it's well done but it feels nothing like s1 did

Right after fantasy life online, a disappointing shadow of the 3ds classic built on predatory gacha microtransactions, dies a pathetic death after barely a year released in english, a brand new switch game rises from its ashes. Literally would have never guessed this would happen
#fantasy life#i see they reused some of the flo character designs. hopefully this doesn't signal them inheriting the shitty gacha elements as well#despite how disappointing flo was there still were some parts i liked about it!#like the removal of genderlocked clothes and getting to interact with the furniture in your house and the party size increase!#so i hope fantasy life switch takes all the improvements of flo and steers faaaaaar away from everything else about that game#oh. and i hope its an actual sequel to fantasy life 3ds. not like an alternate universe reset or whatever flos story was#altho. the fact that its called fantasy life i (what does the i even stand for?)and not fl 2 doesnt bode well. but i will keep an open mind#ok im done ranting about a 10 year old 3ds game now LOL

acv hate on my dash and i can't even be mad about it because they make some good points 😶
#like yes it was extremely fucking weird to have us play as a viking with all the violence that entails#while conveniently sidestepping any real consequences for that violence or contending with the results of that violence#because you're too afraid that lingering on it for too long might make your protag look bad#it's like they suddenly decided that their audience is too stupid to deal with moral ambiguity. in the moral ambiguity franchise.#this is once again drifting towards my forever argument that making these games rpgs was a mistake#or rather making these games *half-assed* rpgs was a mistake#and weakens the narrative bc there's never any meaningful follow through for any decisions#including some of the decisions that we the player don't even get to make ourselves#like i think having a set narrative would eliminate a lot of the problems with this game's writing#because they clearly weren't willing to take the rpg elements all the way#also just... make it smaller. there's too many arcs and too many diversions from the main narrative#which while a lot of them admittedly have some fun character moments they probably should not have been required to advance the main story#and with no mission replay or ng+ it's just so prohibitive to replay unless you're like me (deeply mentally ill and in love with eivor)#the point being that dissonance has always bugged me about this game. i could fix her i could fix her i could fix her#anyway. hi i'm gonna go do that ask game now ajdgjhdsf#the nerve pain last night was making it difficult to be on the computer. tbh it also is right now but we soldier on 🫠#ky posts text#ac.txt

Similar to how the Minecraft cave spider is slightly smaller than the average spider model, I think glow squids should have a smaller model than the normal squid

Catching the Record of Lodoss War OVAs on some channel's "animidnight" block was a formative experience for young me, and its design choices were scarred into my mind as the fundamental fantasy aesthetic. Which, uh, didn't exactly make me an odd one out anywhere because it hews closely to the ISO fantasy mold (and indeed helped make the mold).
"Record of Lodoss War" (I'm using quotes to indicate the literal phrase) is one of those odd-ball translation choices that ended up being iconic, just ever so slightly nonsensical, it stuck in the minds of kids like me that watched it young. A transliteration of the Japanese is Lodoss-tou Senki. -tou just means island; "senki" could credibly be translated as (and this may shock you) 'war record'. It's a specific term in Japanese that refers to the record an officer or attached scribe kept of the battles a military force took part in ("battle chronicle" is also a good translationand by metonymy is used for "military history"). As you might imagine, it's still popular in manga and novel names.
It started out as, not quite a novel, but a "RePlay", a record of the events of a table top RPG campaign, published in a magazine (Comptiq focused on computer games, but apparently content was content, and Lodoss got hugely popular). The mid-eighties predecessor to Critical Role, basically. It did really well, which makes sense, given that the dungeon master and the players were all published writers (the DM would publish what's called the first domestic Japanese high fantasy novels, Rune Soldier, in the same setting). It started out in D&D, but would also be played in Tunnels and Trolls and RuneQuest. In 1989, they ended up publishing their own set of rules, called Record of Lodoss War Companion, and later, Swordworld RPG (2.5edition came out in 2018!).
A series that was inspired and distilled a lot of the concepts that were and would remain popular in high fantasy settings in both Japan and America and then probably inspired another generation of iterations when the anime came back to America.
Some day maybe I'll watch the anime again, it finally got an English Blu-Ray remaster in 2017. I've read the manga and some of the novelizations in the mean time and, to be honest, they were pretty middle of the road, nostalgia notwithstanding.

A 2D exploration platformer with RPG elements (levels, stats, different bows and weapons to equip).
Briefly: a beautiful game. No flaws, but nothing that stands out either.
This game is beautiful. If you like the pixel aesthetic at all, I think you'll also love it. Critical hit in my visual sensibilities. It looks like Symphony of the Night looks in my nostalgia painted memories. The only note: it doesn't exactly take any risks, design wise, but if it did, that wouldn't be very true to the source material would it?
The music works.
Combat is pretty fun, if a bit easy. There are seven elements, you get wind and fire options for your basic attacks, and spells and special bows for the rest. Swapping elements changes your resistances too. The different types of weapons (long sword, knife, two-handed, spear, and throwing) offer some variety, as do the attractive designs. That said, for a melee based game like this, I prefer slightly more technical and challenging combat. Hollow Knight's a good example of my sweet spot, and Blasphemous is also well in my strike zone.
Movement is basically okay. You have to feel like a badass when you leave an after image trailing behind you. The wind element comes with the ability to hover (move slowly in mid air at up to your maximum jump height above ground or water), and they do a couple fun things with that. Other than that, it's all pretty straight-forward, which is a little disappointing.
They do some fun occasional fun puzzles with the archery.
Individual room design was fun sometimes, but the overall map design was lackluster. Yet another victim of the trend where leadership says, "Adding metroidvania tag increases sales, so do it," and design can only respond, "If we take a linear game, fold the map up in a spiral, and occasionally make you back track, that makes a fun exploration experience right?" It's been done worse but it's still not great.
This sort of game tends not to have a lot of story, but what there was was pretty good. One of those cases where the writers have a "twist" in mind, but did not intend for the player to be confused about it at all, just the character. The dramatic irony still makes the pay off satisfying.
It took me about 12 hours to 100%. It's on PC for 20$, which might be worth it. The Switch and PS4 versions are full price games, which is faintly baffling for a game so short, no matter how pretty and nostalgic.
And that's why I've shared so many words with my dash over what's ultimately a decent game; because of the anchor its series dropped in my heart in childhood.

i get to see the blue jays this august.... the leafs potentially 4 times in the span of 3 months........ need all my mutuals to get into sports n then we can all just collectively state/country hop and meet each other and see sports teams bc i feel blessed with the way things have unraveled since i've started loving f1 → hockey → baseball

this is not the exact one I watched but I saw one of these "dish scape" things at someone's house who actually has TV (like they pay for dish/cable instead of just watching stuff online) and I think they're meant to be relaxing atmospheric stuff that you mostly ignore, but I sat there for 35 minutes watching absolutely engrossed.. further proof that I genuinely think my brain is incapable of experiencing boredom lol..
#IT'S BECAUSE there's so many little details that like you can spend minutes just scanning every corner of the image and taking it all in and#you keep finding new things! like 'oh I didn't know that blade of grass moved!' or 'I didnt see that bucket before!'. And then on top of#so many details - some things genuinely do change. The one I saw was a Beach house scene and sometimes a bird would fly by or ONE TIME kite#came out of nowhere. a sandcastle built and unbuilt itself. there's a firepit and it comes on when the sky changes from day to afternoon!!#this is like watching a sports game to me. I need weird detail oriented friends who will sit for 20 minutes staring at a barely moving pict#ure & cheer and clap with me when a seagull flies across the screen ghgj.. THERE HE IS!!!! etc!! and there's just so much to think about!!#Like how the images are layered or animated and the choices that were made (like I think the sunrise and sunset sky background images for t#e beachouse are just the same picture flipped and recolored) and trying to predict what's going to happen next (will the lights in the hous#turn off for night time? will another bird show up??) etc! I even got up at one point to walk close to the screen and get a better view of#hese paintings that were visible through the beachhouse windows. and then thinking about building a similar home in the sims! OR ALSO THIS#WOULD BE SUCH A COOL medium I think to tell a story! Like you upload a video to youtube that is framed just as a completely average moving#screensaver ambiance type of thing. It's like 7 hours long and mostly loops the same still image. However. over time at certain points you#can see some thing happen like watching characters interact through the windows. animals or people walk across the screen. certain elements#in the environment morph or change. etc. In such a way that an entire like plot is conveyed. maybe like fantasy mystery sort of thing. I WI#SH I could do this style of art / had friends who could or had money to pay somebody to. I would LOVE to collaborate on a weird surreal#It's Just Your Average Slowly Looping Moving Screensaver Video I Promise' type story.. jjhhgHH.. Or even just making one of these set in so#me of my fantasy world environments. not as a secret thing with easter eggs that tell a story but just literally an image like this tha#moves over time and etc. HHRRGRGHhhhhGG.. ANYWay!! I had to actually turn it off not because I was bored but because it was distracting me#. which is funny since again. I think for most people it's meant to be a 'just leave it on in the background' type of thing that's bland an#neutral . But it was just making me think too much ghjgh.. This is why I can't go to amusement parks or nightclubs bars or concerts like..#a moving screensaver image is too overstimulating to my brain. I am also a hater definitely like I'm a very analytical person who is critical of society and systems & everything that exists#and even generally am just very opionated and have distinct preferences - so just because everything is INTERESTING does not mean I LIKE or#enjoy everything or never get tired of/annoyed by situations or ideas or etc. But it's more just like.. I literally dont think I could ever#be bored because of the way my brain works and also I approach life with elements of childlike whimsy and constant obsessive curiosity and#attention to detail. so as much as I am an analytical bore I also love everything and the world is fascinating at all times. lol.. duality#of man. if you get it then you get it. SO I finally started dumping my stuff on my geocities.ws account that I made like a year ago but it turns out that this site SUCKS but at least it can send .txt files so here's a fossil fighters card game that I made WAY more cards for than I thought I would
#asks#fossil fighters#i actually didn't bother much with making vivosaurs#i just had a million ideas for the other card types#the vivosaurs were kinda just Work to design since i was taking a lot of their stuff directly from the games#so it was a lot of looking stuff up and adjusting the numbers to work better#and i STILL don't know if i made the damage numbers high enough because i've never used this kind of defense mechanic before#inspired by me thinking about the pokemon tcg and thinking “hey that's a really good system to focus on Monsters Battling”#and my thoughts drifted towards my Braithia card game for like 15 seconds before i wanted to make fossil fighters#also all the mechanics that don't involve cards are lifted directly from the game#the various Zones and such are copied straight from fossil fighters 1#the only changes i made were lowering the numbers and changing support effects to be flat numbers instead of multipliers#also changed elements from multipliers to flat numbers#multipliers: great for video games and annoying for physical games#also i wrote all the rules before coming up with the fossil deck idea which i'm still really proud of#and i was able to just kinda staple it on with no changes to the rest of the rules so that was nice#and then once i had fossil rocks as a mechanic i got started writing cards and i simply didn't stop#so many things to take from the games#like when i came up with the fossil deck one of the first ideas was taking the worthless normal rocks you dig up#and just chucking it at an enemy for damage#there's a lot of ways to spend fp so i felt kinda pressured to make everything low cost#which was a problem because of the Durable mechanic i put on the dark fossil rocks#like durable 3? there's literally only 3 cards in the main deck that cost 3 or more#and it made the Fragile mechanic pretty meaningless too#high costs would prevent you from attacking that turn so it was just pretty awkward#might just remove the durable and fragile mechanics if i come back to this#they were mainly just for flavor anyway#because wondrous/miraculous fossil rocks need to cost a lot but i want to represent how fragile they are#fuck i spelled it wonderous instead of wondrous. english is stupid

#rat rambles#starve posting#this is abt the new dst beta btw willow and wigfrid are getting skill trees#now I have complicated feelings on parts of their skill trees but this is a beta so Im fully expected attempted improvements at least#<- this is mostly abt the beefalo stuff on wigfrid's since it just feels. so out of place with the rest of her skill tree#but burnie desperately needs better buffs especially since youre required to take a lot of them for the lunar and shadow branches#I also have some complicated feelings on the direction theyre taking the comabt but at the same time it is a necessary change#but at the same time one thats only necessary because of them deciding to take a more boss heavy approach to game progression#basically this is their attemtp to get out of a whole they dug themsleves in#which means that as time goes on dst is becoming less and less of a survival game#which some ppl might like but its still a bit disappointing for a game that caught my interest because of the survival elements#its not terrible tho it just means that the devs have decided upon a new direction for their game to give it more heavy story elements#most of my main issues have come from how clumsy the change has been and how it very much means we're losing the original feel of the game#but original don't starve still exists so its not like I think its the end of the world that theyre differenciating the two more#anyways since the devs are clearly trying to make actual combat classes a thing within dst I think this completely recontextualises things#as in I have to throw all of my past predictions and expectations out the window and look over everyone again taking thin into account#since now theyve shown that theyre fully willing to make completely new mechanics for these skill trees including straight up magic#which reminds me god I hope they dont give wendy spells or some shit#I really really REALLY want wendy's skilltree to mostly focus on abby buffs and sisturn buffs#because if they dont thatll just completely fuck over wendy's whole playstyle and I desperately dont want abby to become obsolete#I also need them to give the sisturn actually good buffs like for the love of god pls its only worth anything in super early game#at Least make the boosted abby regen a worldwide buff it wouldn't even be worth using most the time still but itd be Something#also god Im so scared for walter skill tree. please have it not fall into the same trap as his base kit of being too all over the place#the wigfrid beefalo branch is what makes me worried since thats a very concept over function thing already#same with like. most of wormwoods skill trees#tbf they fixed at lot of the weird wormwood stuff and hopefully they'll fix the weird wigfrid stuff too#most of willow's problems just come from the bernie skills being too weak which is especially funny cause previously burnie was the only#notable stength willow has pre tree#I mean tbf burnie has always been the weaker support between him and abby (imo) so its not like hes been like amazing anyways#but willow is just such a nothing character that burnie is basically why you use her

i was reading a BNHA fic that poked fun at how ochako's quirk isn't really "zero-gravity," and i had an idea for a crossover that either has already been done or desperately needs to be:
